Jessica Hopkins
Editorial Director
After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Journalism, Jessica spent six years at The Observer working across various desks including Woman, Food Monthly and the New Review. While there she interviewed actors, directors and chefs and wrote weekly TV reviews. Alongside The Observer she’s also written for theguardian.com, Grazia, Men’s Health, Jamie Magazine, P&O Our World, Soho House Magazines and Completely London.
After leaving The Observer, Jessica spent time writing copy for creative and advertising agencies. While spending time getting to know the brand or business she was writing for, she began to see organisational and communication issues that were preventing the client’s objectives being achieved. She saw that excellent copy was not always enough, and became interested in the bigger picture of the whole communication process. Realising a different approach was needed that went beyond the words on the page, she formed Celadon.
While crafting and telling a good story remains at the heart of what Jessica does, it’s in the spaces around the words where she feels most at home. And where her work really comes into its own.
Celadon is a light jade green glaze used in ceramics, and, as a hobby ceramicist, one that I use a lot. When working with clay, you can have an idea of what you want your finished piece to look like, but nuances within each stage of the process can alter what you’ll eventually pick out of the kiln. I’ve found the process in communication projects is not dissimilar.
